At present there are three license classes available for amateur radio opreators

Technician
General
Amateur Extra ("Extra")

A person must pass the Technician exam before they can take the General exam, and they must pass the General exam before they can take the Extra exam.

The FCC has dropped the Morse Code requirement to obtain a license and that is no longer part of the exam. The exams are all multiple choice, written exams. The Technician and General exams are 35 questions and the Amateur Extra exam is 50 questions. An applicant must score 70% or better to pass the exam.

Before you can take an exam to become a licensed amateur radio operator, you MUST have a FCC Registration Number (FRN). If you do not have a FRN, you can not take an exam. Follow the instructions HERE to get your FRN.

COARECT offers an exam session once every other month at the La Pine library. Check on the Events page for the exact dates.
If you would like to take one of the exams, fill out this pre-registration form and return it to us. The fee for each exam is $15.00 and if you are sucessful the FCC will charge $35.00 to apply for or upgrade an existing license.

Please contact Beverly for more information about the exam sessions.
